Autumn Newsletter 2013

Hello, and welcome to Class 9!

We have made a great start to the year, I look forward to very new and exciting challenges and opportunities that Class 9 will bring.

This year a lot of our learning will be theme based across the whole school, during our first half term we will have ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ as our theme. A lot of our learning will centre around this topic including literacy, geography, history, ICT, science and art. It will hopefully allow great links to be made with these subjects so that we are creative with our learning. Our class country is China, links will be made to incorporate this into our learning throughout the year. After October half term, we will be linking our learning with the theme of ‘Fantastic Festivals’.

Children in Year 5 are swimming on Tuesday morning, please ensure your child has all the appropriate items for swimming each week. PE will be on Monday and Wednesday. A reminder about PE clothing: white or blue top (no football shirts), blue or black shorts, pumps and trainers. As we often have bad weather, your child can also bring a sweatshirt or jumper with them for outdoor lessons. It is important that the PE kit be in school at all times in case a lesson time changes.

Each week children will be given a piece of homework on Friday due in on Wednesday; this will either relate to the topic we are studying or work that will increase their understanding in Literacy or other topic areas. Your child will also have a numeracy teacher, who will have their own hand in days. Children should read at home every night, although do not feel that your child has to rush through these books, as comprehension is equally as important as reading itself.

Each week we will have ‘Starfish Of The Week’ given out on Fridays. Children should either; behave exceptionally all week, produce work of a very high standard or be a good friend in order to win this prestigious award!

Year 6 will be visiting Bolton-le-Sands library every couple of weeks, we let the children know in advance and they must ensure they have their library book and card.

Miss. Pye  will be teaching the children on Thursday afternoon including spelling, punctuation and grammar, Religious Education and Music.

To further prepare your child for the challenges and opportunities of high school I do ask that any initial queries you or your child may have are first dealt with by your child. However if the query cannot be sorted out then by all means do contact me.

I am looking forward to meeting you all over this coming year. Thank you very much for all your support thorough out the year.

Miss G Rogerson
